How gonumber.com works

Offering the combined benefits of a sophisticated yellow pages and a reliable search engine, each gonumber profile may be viewed using any one of the following methods:

1. Keyword searching*: Enter appropriate search keywords / tags into the first (search) field at gonumber.com and click [GO!] For example:

2. By gonumber URL: Type into your web browser address field gonumber.com/g where g is the unique gonumber iD that identifies the account (g.gonumber.com will work just as well.)
3. gonumber direct access: Visit gonumber.com, and input the gonumber iD into the first (search) field and click [GO!]

What is gonumber.com?
A robust online directory designed to provide accurate information in a widely accessible format. A 'gonumber' is the unique 4 to 30 character iD that represents pertinent information associated with a business or organisation, as shown in the diagram below:

Why isn't membership free?
The majority of (surviving) online free to join directories re-sell 'their' data - as do some that charge for membership. We do not and will never re-sell what we insist is your data. You paid for it, so you own your gonumber account. Another benefit of a fee based service it that it encourages our members to keep their accounts up to date - increasing the directory's value to the public.

Is it possible to link a regular domain name to a gonumber profile?
Yes. For example, like gosagar.com, you may wish to ensure that typing www.yourdomain.x resolves to your gonumber profile. NOTE: Your gonumber URL is permanent and does not require renewal - unlike a domain name. To re-direct a domain to your gonumber URL, use your domain provider's control panel or contact them directly. O'WONDER recommends GoDaddy.com for domain names.

How does a gonumber profile differ from a regular web page?
gonumber.com is specifically designed and engineered to present information in a widely accessible manner. Conventional web sites are often 'hand built' using technologies that reduce their accessibility. They require maintenance that can depend on expensive designers, flaky friends and relatives or even your own limited time. A gonumber account is easy to edit, we are constantly adding new features - and it requires no renewal fees. However...

What if you prefer a custom web site?
How about both? If you desire a web presence that reflects your unique style but are also keen on the idea of a reliable fall back, you can include on your gonumber profile a link to one or more external web addresses (URLs) for no extra charge - and of course, provide a link from your website back to your gonumber profile!

How does gonumber.com differ from a search engine?
Reliability. gonumber.com is a directory, not a search engine. Each entry (account) is normally* managed by its owner(s) and presented as being their official and trusted presence on the Internet. Often when a search engine is used to locate a specific entity such as a business, superfluous information is presented. This is useful for engaging in research but inconvenient when looking for pertinent information such as an active telephone number, current opening hours or an up to date restaurant menu. A gonumber profile solves this problem once and for all.

To further increase accuracy, our members are forbidden from including deceptive keywords within their gonumber profile. For example, a flower shop cannot include sports related search keywords and/or tags. (If you find an entry that may have broken these rules, please contact O'WONDER remembering to include the gonumber iD of the account in question. We will then send in the tag police!)

How are search results prioritized?
gonumber.com lists entries by keyword relevance and signup date - with those that joined gonumber.com earliest at the top. The directory is neutral and therefore listing order cannot be altered.

Is any special software required?
No. gonumber.com is 100% web centric. All features, from account management to image importing and cropping is carried out using any modern web browser, including the latest versions of Firefox, Safari® and Internet Explorer®.

What do I need to open an account?
An email address is used to confirm your account details and inform you of any issues or news. If you do not have an email address, we recommend any of the popular free email services, such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail or other.

Can I close my account - and if so, how?
Yes, and unlike some other services, we won't ask why. Best of all, ALL information will be erased - backups included. To close your account please contact us - ensuring you include an active email address for verification purposes.
